A Dutton Liberal National Government will provide $40,000 to deliver additional security upgrades for the Toowoomba Bowls Club precinct, following break-ins and vandalism.
Federal Member for Groom, Garth Hamilton said the upgrades would help deter criminals and secure the clubhouse and outbuildings from break-ins, like those that occurred last year.
“Our local clubs work hard to raise money and provide an opportunity for residents to participate in activities and stay connected,” Mr Hamilton said.
“When criminals decide to damage property, break in, and steal equipment and money it takes a huge toll on these local clubs and their ability to operate and reinvest.
“Unfortunately, across our region we have seen this sort of criminal behaviour on the rise, and it is costing the community, so we must do more to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.
“A future Dutton-led Liberal National Government will partner with Toowoomba Bowls Club to improve security through the installation of new locks, grills, lighting and security covers.
“Getting Australia Back on Track means keeping families, businesses, and communities safe.”
Chairperson of the Toowoomba Bowls Club, Graham Hawes, welcomed the commitment.
“This is a fantastic outcome for our club. With the rise in crime we’ve seen, better lighting and security cameras will make a real difference. It’ll give peace of mind to our members, volunteers, and everyone who comes through the doors,” Mr Hawes said.
“We’ve been part of Toowoomba for 125 years. We’re proud of our history and excited for our future. The Toowoomba Bowls Club is here for the whole community – safety upgrades like this go a long way in making people feel welcome and protected.”
