This National Volunteer Week we celebrate the many volunteer organisations from across the Groom electorate.
Federal Member for Groom, Garth Hamilton said volunteers were a significant contributor to the Toowoomba region and served us well from emergency services, to disability and community care.
“I want to thank all of our selfless volunteers who make our communities stronger, safer and happier.
“This national volunteer week I am pleased to announce $62,225 in funding for local community groups to continue their invaluable work,” Mr Hamilton said.
The most recent round of Groom volunteer grants was centred around cost of living and supporting groups to help the community address rising costs.
“Local community groups have received grant funding ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.
“The funding is being used for a range of things including fuel vouchers, purchase of small items or new sporting equipment to help families stay active.
“This funding comes at a crucial time when local families, businesses, not for profit and community organisations are doing it tough,” Mr Hamilton said.
The Australian Government Volunteer Grant Program provides funding for organisations that increase participation in volunteering and focus on the inclusion of vulnerable people.
