The Albanese Labor Budget has failed Groom, delivering uncertainty for key projects and failing hard-working Australians right at a time when they needed a plan to address inflation and the cost-of-living crisis.
Ahead of the budget, Garth Hamilton outlined a number of priorities for the region that should have been in the budget, saying the government needed to keep its promises, ease cost of living pressures with a plan to tackle inflation and support the local economy.
“Labor’s first budget failed to deliver for our community and sadly the budget handed down last night only continues to see Labor fail Toowoomba and the Darling Downs.
“We needed to see a budget that would support improved outcomes for families and businesses in Groom.
“Despite the fanfare about the review of Inland Rail, the budget fails to provide the framework needed to see the project delivered and brought to Toowoomba.
“There is no detail on the Railway Parklands projects under the SEQ City Deal.
“In the middle of a housing crisis, Labor’s plan is to increase immigration and abandon infrastructure as a priority.
“We needed a Budget that reduces inflation and reins in spending, what we saw was confirmation the government is pushing up electricity bills, forecasts a rise in unemployment, more taxes on Australians, real wages have not grown and inflation remains high.
“Even worse, the Treasurer failed to even mention ‘roads’ in his budget speech,” Mr Hamilton said.
This Budget will not build a stronger economy, will not support local families and delivers uncertainty. It is not a budget that is fair for all Australians.
