Yesterday, farmers from across Australia rallied at Parliament House for the first time in nearly 40 years, in protest of Labor’s anti-farming agenda.
Federal Member for Groom, Garth Hamilton said Labor is destroying agriculture and making life impossible for the nation’s producers of food and fibre, due to endless cuts to the regions, anti-farming legislation and unnecessary red tape.
“I was proud to stand with our nation’s farmers yesterday, alongside Peter Dutton and my Coalition colleagues.
“It’s easy to understand why our farmers are fed up, after being constantly attacked by Labor and their anti-farming policies, from water buybacks to reckless renewables, new taxes on farmers and the senseless phase out of our live sheep export trade,” Mr Hamilton said.
“The Labor Government continues to decimate the industry and the anger and frustration being felt by farmers is sadly understandable.
“All our farmers want is a fair go and to continue feeding the country,” Mr Hamilton said.
Prime Minster Anthony Albanese refused to attend the rally, ignoring hundreds of farmers who travelled from across Australia to plead with the Labor Government to stop its anti-farming agenda.
“It’s disappointing that the Prime Minister and his Labor colleagues weren’t there to hear the concerns of the agricultural industry.
“This government’s disastrous policies have left farmers in the lurch, and they’re too cowardly to face the music.
“Mr Albanese is happy to go to Beef Week, put on the Akubra and the RM’s and pretend for the photoshoot that he understands regional Australia, but when it comes to listening to our concerns, he is nowhere to be seen.
“The Liberal-National Coalition will always stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our farmers and will continue to fight for farming and the future of regional, rural and remote Australia,” Mr Hamilton said.
“Unlike the Albanese Labor government, we’re not afraid to stand up and fight for the industries that power this country.
