Today the Albanese Government blocked scrutiny of the Future Made in Australia legislation, which will see a whopping $23 billion in new spending.
On the initiative of the Shadow Minister for Energy and Climate Change, Ted O’Brien, the Coalition moved:
That the Future Made in Australia (Guarantee of Origin) Bill 2024, Future Made in Australia (Guarantee of Origin Charges) Bill 2024 and the Future Made in Australia (Guarantee of Origin Consequential Amendments and
Transitional Provisions 2024 be referred to the Standing Committee on Economics for consideration and an advisory report by 2 December 2024.
Federal Member for Groom and Deputy Chair of the Standing Committee on Economics, said there was a very simple objective of the motion.
“There has been no proper consideration of the legislation and the huge $23 billion debt bill that comes with it.
“The Albanese Government chose to gag debate, gag the consideration-in-detail process in the parliament.
“It is important the government allows sufficient accountability of its legislation and they have not,” Mr Hamilton said.
Australia requires strong economic management that gets our economy back on track by getting the basics right: affordable and reliable energy, flexible workplaces, less regulation and market interventions and red tape.
“The facts are clear: insolvencies are up, productivity is down, and businesses are struggling just to keep their doors open.
“Labor keeps talking about Future Made in Australia, but the more we hear the more it does not stack up.
“Today the government had an opportunity to show this was a good policy, to prove through the Committee process the benefits.
“Instead of seeking to be accountable and improve their legislation Labor ran scared and hid, Australian taxpayers will be worse off as a result,” Mr Hamilton said.
The Future Made in Australia idea is merely a bumper sticker, not a genuine economic plan and it is shameful the government has failed to allow the bill to be scrutinised in detail.
