Businesses, workers and consumers across the Toowoomba region will be worse off after having have been sold out by the Albanese Labor Government and Senate crossbenchers.
Federal Member for Groom, Garth Hamilton said today members of the crossbench joined with the Labor Government to legislate higher cost of living, after passing through highly damaging regulation before it receives scrutiny through the Senate inquiry process.
“This is a last minute, dirty deal that bypasses the Parliamentary process and it will see highly damaging changes to the country’s industrial relations system.
“We knew this Labor government did not have the right priorities for Australia, and now we know the crossbench does not either.
“In the middle of a cost-of-living crisis, the Albanese government’s new laws will substantially increase the burden and costs imposed on businesses.
“This legislation assumes every small business is doing the wrong thing and will punish those businesses using legitimate labour hire arrangements to meet demand such as those experienced over the Christmas period,” Mr Hamilton said.
This new red tape will increase costs on business, drive down employment and hurt productivity.
Mr Hamilton said the new costs would ultimately be passed onto consumers wherever they were, at the grocer, service station, pharmacy, getting construction work done or at the bakery.
Industry groups, such as the Master Builders Association have blasted the Albanese Labor Government.
Master Builders Australia CEO, Denita Wawn said the Albanese Government has failed to understand how building and construction work is performed:
- “The unions are today celebrating their Christmas gift while tradies and Australians who are grappling with a cost of living and housing crisis will foot the bill.
- “Any remaining trust between the business community and the Albanese Government has today been eroded.
- “The unions are today celebrating their Christmas gift while tradies and Australians who are grappling with a cost of living and housing crisis will foot the bill.
Mr Hamilton said the laws are incompatible with a modern labour market that must be flexible, dynamic, and rewarding for workers.
“This will be a devastating blow to the country’s mining, resources and construction sector which is the engine room of our economy,” Mr Hamilton said.
Additional
- The Coalition has always supported parts of the Bill which make sensible changes to our industrial relations framework.
- The Coalition support the parts of the Bill which addresses small business redundancy exemptions, industrial manslaughter, protections against discrimination, wage theft, the Asbestos Safety and Eradication Agency and first responders PTSD changes.
- The Coalition will continue to fight against the remaining harmful aspects of Labor’s legislation, including the overhaul of casual employment, the radical empowerment of trade union officials, and deprivation of Australians’ right to be their own boss.
- These new laws will be devastating for the Australia economy. They do nothing to improve productivity in this country.
