I want to acknowledge the resignation announcement by my colleague, David Littleproud, from his leadership role in the National Party of Australia.
David has been a strong and principled advocate for regional Australia throughout his time in Parliament. As Leader of the Nationals, he consistently fought to ensure that the voices of farmers, small businesses and regional communities were heard in Canberra.
I have seen his work firsthand, as a Minister and Member of the Parliament. I saw it as our two electorates share a boundary, a council, a rich history.
Representing a sprawling electorate, David understands the pressures facing people outside the major cities — from rising living costs, access to services, crumbling infrastructure, floods, drought and the continued attacks on regional industries. His leadership helped keep those issues firmly on the national agenda.
I want to thank David for his service to the Liberal National Party, the Parliament, and most importantly to the regional communities he has always championed. His commitment to practical policy and common-sense solutions has earned him the respect of colleagues across the Coalition and the broader Parliament.
I wish David and his family the very best for the future and look forward to continuing to work with him as a neighbour and a colleague in the Parliament.
ENDS.
