Federal Member for Groom Garth Hamilton MP has stood alongside President of the Ezidi Youth Association in Australia, Hassan Ibrahim, following the return and arrest of ISIS brides in Australia.
Mr Hamilton said the developments had caused deep distress within Australia’s Ezidi community, many of whom are survivors of ISIS atrocities.
“This is a day of shame for the Albanese Government,” Mr Hamilton said.
“The Ezidi community has already endured unimaginable horrors at the hands of ISIS – genocide, slavery, violence, and the destruction of families and communities.”
“To bring people connected to that regime back into Australia is deeply confronting for survivors and deeply concerning for many Australians.”
“We have seen the destruction radical Islam has caused. Australians deserve confidence that community safety and social cohesion comes first.”
“I stand with the Ezidi community, and I hope the wheels of justice are swift.
President of the Ezidi Youth Association in Australia, Hassan Ibrahim, said the return of ISIS brides had caused significant fear and distress within the Ezidi community in Australia.
“For many Ezidi survivors, ISIS is directly connected to genocide, mass killings, sexual slavery, displacement, and the destruction of entire families and communities.
“As a result, these developments have caused significant fear, distress, and emotional trauma within the Ezidi community in Australia.
“The community believes that the impact of these returns is not limited to Ezidi survivors alone, but also raises broader concerns relating to community safety, social cohesion, and the long-term effects of extremist ideology on Australian society as a whole.
“The Ezidi community continues to seek justice, accountability, and recognition for the crimes committed against the Ezidi people, while also supporting lawful processes, community safety, and peaceful coexistence within Australia.
